For starters\, the contestants are not professional rodeo cowboys; instead\, they are usually full-time ranch hands who compete in annual ranch rodeos for fun and for a chance to compete in the WRCA Finals in Amarillo\, TX! The events in ranch rodeos are more similar to the tasks commonly performed on a ranch\, and the equipment and tack used are the same as those used during everyday ranch work. Instead of competing as individuals\, the contestants in ranch rodeos compete as a team representing the ranch they work for. Though there are often individual awards such as “Top Hand” and “Top Horse\,” the main prize is for the top overall ranch team.

SUMMARY:2022 Run for the Wall
DESCRIPTION:Every May\, for more than a decade\, an ever-increasing number of motorcyclists have made the “Run for the Wall\,” a cross-country journey from Southern California to the “Wall\,” the Vietnam war memorial in Washington\, D.C. While the journey’s avowed purpose is political — to increase public awareness about those who remain either prisoners of war (POWs) or missing in action in Southeast Asia — it also serves as a healing pilgrimage for its participants and as a “welcome-home” ritual many veterans feel they never received. \nThousands of Veterans and motorcyclists will be traveling through Limon on May 21st 2022 and we hope to give them the small-town welcome that Eastern Colorado is known for. They will enjoy meals at Limon School and we will give them a patriotic send-off when they leave the morning of the 22nd.

Plovers find the short grass prairie and fallow fields in the area to be excellent habitat and Karval\, Colorado is one of the largest nesting grounds in the nation. Mountain Plovers migrate over the Rocky Mountains from California\, hence the name “mountain\,” and stay in the area usually through late summer. \nBirders visit this area from all over the world to spot the rare Mountain Plover. Often referred to as the “ghost of the prairie\,” plovers blend in with the environment.  The Mountain Plover Festival is a terrific time to travel the area in groups searching for nests that are tended by both female and male plovers.  Third-generation ranchers\, the sons\, and daughters of Colorado homesteaders lead day and evening tours on public and private land including through a historic area where the Goodnight-Loving Cattle Trail ran in the late 1860s\, driving the large-scale movement of Texas Longhorns north to Colorado. \nThis is a weekend full of bird watching\, wildlife viewing tours\, entertainment\, history\, arts and crafts\, antiques\, and LOTS OF GOOD FOOD!
